Job description

Amazon Operations Infrastructure Services is looking for a System Development Engineer III to join the Network Configuration Management team in Austin, TX. This role focuses on creating software that manages IT infrastructure across Amazon's global network of Fulfillment Centers. The engineer will work closely with Network Engineers and AI/ML teams to develop scalable network configuration management systems. The position emphasizes operational excellence and innovative solutions to unique challenges at Amazon's scale.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
  • Knowledge of at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as C++, Java, or Objective C
  • Knowledge of OS concepts and Linux/Unix Systems administration
  • Bachelor's degree or above in computer science, computer engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of systems development experience
  • 6+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby
  • Strong knowledge in distributed system design, operating systems, storage, or network administration
  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience
  • Experience with AWS or cloud technologies
  • Experience designing, building, operating, and managing large-scale distributed systems or web services
  • Ability to break down complex concepts into easily understood frameworks

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable network configuration management systems that automate deployment and validation across devices in Amazon Fulfillment Centers worldwide.
  • Develop full-stack automation solutions enabling network engineers to execute complex infrastructure changes safely and efficiently.
  • Architect configuration drift detection and remediation frameworks using infrastructure-as-code fundamentals.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of projects by building proprietary tools and working across the full technology stack.
  • Drive technical strategy and architectural choices that balance short-term business needs with long-term scalability.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians worldwide, providing technical guidance and fostering engineering excellence.
  • Champion operational excellence through clear technical documentation and effective cross-team communication.
