Job description

The Equipment Engineer will be part of the Satellite Hardware Manufacturing Team at Project Kuiper, focusing on improving equipment uptime and capability for manufacturing next-generation spacecraft. This role involves managing the full equipment lifecycle, from design to end-of-life services. The engineer will utilize expertise in electro-optical systems to ensure high system availability and production capacity. The position emphasizes data analysis for maintenance programs and troubleshooting protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation
  • Experience reading and developing rack elevation diagrams, wiring diagrams, GD&T, etc.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Data Acquisition (DAQ) Systems
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
  • Experience developing equipment maintenance protocols, including Preventative Maintenance activities, Troubleshooting Runbooks, and Spare Equipment Plans
  • Experience with Fiber Optic Assemblies, Optical Test Systems, and Optical Metrology Equipment

Responsibilities

  • Develop system requirements and partner with development groups to drive detail design of new equipment
  • Participate in sourcing plans for complex equipment, including COTS and custom solutions
  • Lead equipment integration and site acceptance testing
  • Develop troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and spares plans for equipment
  • Support second line escalation of critical equipment downtime
  • Specify and develop facilities interface requirements such as power, network, space, LN2/GN2, and PCW
  • Train and support equipment technicians responsible for routine maintenance and troubleshooting
