Job description

As a Systems Integration Engineer at AWS, you will bridge software simulation environments and physical hardware, ensuring control systems and mechanical infrastructure perform as intended before deployment. You will work within a diverse team focused on maintaining AWS's global infrastructure, tackling complex challenges in a collaborative environment. Your expertise in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing will be crucial in validating systems under realistic conditions. This role emphasizes innovation and the application of engineering principles to enhance data center operations.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience
  • 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

Responsibilities

  • Design and build HIL test environments that replicate realistic datacenter loading scenarios.
  • Own the integration layer between physical hardware and software simulations ensuring bidirectional signal fidelity.
  • Develop and execute integration test plans covering functional verification, stress testing, fault injection, and edge-case scenarios.
  • Define and maintain Design Verification Plans (DVPs) and acceptance criteria for integrated system behavior.
  • Automate HIL test workflows using Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent tools.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on integration failures by reproducing failure modes in the HIL environment.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align on integration requirements and deployment readiness criteria.
  • Build and maintain simulation-hardware co-validation frameworks for new technology adoption.
  • Develop institutional HIL standards that scale across datacenter programs and product generations.
  • Support commissioning and operational readiness by translating HIL validation findings into field deployment guidance.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
