Job description

The AWS Hardware Engineering team is seeking experienced Systems Development Engineers to design and operate next-generation cloud platforms. This role involves working on AWS-specific hardware, firmware, and software for non-volatile memory devices, particularly NAND-based SSDs. You will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and specialists to deliver high standards for safety and security while driving innovation in storage solutions. The position offers the opportunity to have a direct impact on product improvements and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 1+ years of designing or architecting new and existing systems experience.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals including networking, storage, and operating systems.
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
  • Direct experience with system busses such as PCIe, UART, and I2C.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.
  • 7+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, and operating systems.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with Linux kernel and user space software development.
  • Deep expertise with protocol stacks including block storage (NVMe, SAS/SATA) and networking (Ethernet, TCP/IP).
  • Knowledge and hands-on operational experience with networked and/or direct attached storage systems and SSD devices.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and build SSD-based storage systems based on customer input and product requirements.
  • Deliver storage system integration design and code while collaborating with a diverse team of engineers.
  • Own innovation on architecture and design for storage platforms.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and partner teams on firmware development.
  • Work closely with Hardware, Software, Firmware, and validation teams to drive product integration.
  • Build at-scale operational excellence into product development and deployment practices.
  • Participate in Sprint and operational standups to report progress and updates.
  • Lead Design Reviews and technical discussions to ensure quality and innovation.
  • Drive integrations and deployment at-scale across teams.
  • Audit quality and identify production improvements to enhance system performance.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
