Job description
The Photonic Engineer role at Google focuses on developing custom silicon solutions that enhance the performance of Google's direct-to-consumer products. The Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for designing and building the hardware and software technologies that power all of Google's services. This position involves working on complex computational challenges and contributing to the innovation of hardware experiences. The engineer will play a crucial role in shaping the systems that support Google's extensive computing infrastructure.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience working with fiber optical components and packaging techniques.
- PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with digital coherent optical transmission systems.
- Proficiency in digital signal processing, high-speed optoelectronic circuit simulation or system modeling.
- Knowledge of large volume high-speed optical transceiver designs and manufacturing.
- Knowledge of high speed design of electronics and optics.
Responsibilities
- Design low-cost and high-speed optical transceivers for inter-carrier interference communication links.
- Architect optical systems to scale TPU superpods.
- Identify, research, and evaluate emerging photonic networking technologies.
- Explore optical technologies to disaggregate and improve the efficiencies of future computing systems.
