The Photonic Engineer role at Google focuses on developing custom silicon solutions that enhance the performance of Google's direct-to-consumer products. • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience working with fiber optical components and packaging techniques.
• PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience with digital coherent optical transmission systems.
• Proficiency in digital signal processing, high-speed optoelectronic circuit simulation or system modeling.
• Knowledge of large volume high-speed optical transceiver designs and manufacturing.
• Knowledge of high speed design of electronics and optics.

• Design low-cost and high-speed optical transceivers for inter-carrier interference communication links.
• Architect optical systems to scale TPU superpods.
• Identify, research, and evaluate emerging photonic networking technologies.
• Explore optical technologies to disaggregate and improve the efficiencies of future computing systems.
