Job description

The Staff Software Engineer for the Accelerator Platform Software team at Google will focus on developing foundational hardware and low-level software for Google's accelerator roadmap. This role involves working on complex issues related to software and hardware interactions, contributing to the design and implementation of new features, and providing technical leadership. The team aims to enhance accelerator-to-host connectivity and onboard new types of domain-specific accelerators into Google data centers. The engineer will also collaborate with various internal teams to drive software development plans and address system-level challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience in testing and launching software products.
  • 5 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with C, C++, Linux kernel, virtualization, and computer architecture.

Responsibilities

  • On-board emerging co-accelerators into Google's ML accelerator families to enable new use cases with improved performance and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to design and implement new features in system software, including firmware or daemons running on baseboard management controller/hosts and kernel drivers.
  • Design and develop tests, tools, telemetry, and dashboards to generate insights to monitor and debug potential issues.
  • Analyze, debug, and resolve complex system-level challenges related to kernel, virtualization, and input/output stacks.
  • Provide technical leadership to help formulate and drive software development plans and identify dependencies in cross-functional teams.
