Job description

The Manager of Hardware Engineering at Google will lead a team focused on developing innovative hardware solutions that enhance user experiences. This role is part of the Devices & Services team, which integrates AI, software, and hardware to create seamless interactions for users. The manager will be responsible for setting priorities, providing coaching, and collaborating with internal and external partners to align on strategic goals. The position requires a strong background in hardware engineering and technical leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 8 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in hardware engineering or a related occupation.
  • Alternatively, a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and 6 years of experience in hardware engineering or a related occupation.
  • 6 years of experience in technical leadership or people management for team development and project execution.
  • Experience in design and validation of interacting hardware subsystems or hardware system integration.
  • Knowledge of systems architecture principles and system design for optimizing testability, performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Experience in root-cause failure analysis and system-level debugging of hardware and software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the hardware engineering team by setting priorities and providing consistent performance coaching and feedback.
  • Develop the long-term hardware roadmap by collaborating with internal partners and external vendors.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of hardware designs against product requirements and customize solutions based on trade-offs.
  • Analyze complex hardware issues, risks, and trade-offs to drive corrective solutions.
  • Review and approve hardware design, architecture, and technology development activities across multiple product lines.
  • Direct performance measurements and simulations to optimize user experience and lead continuous design improvements.
