Job description

The Custom Timing CAD team at Apple is seeking an entry-level engineer to support and develop flows for critical sign-off disciplines in custom IC design. This role involves transistor-level timing verification and formal verification, utilizing tools like NanoTime and ESP. The engineer will collaborate closely with analog and digital designers to set up flows, debug issues, and ensure clean sign-off. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the quality and schedule of Apple's advanced chips.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is required, with an MS preferred.
  • Programming or scripting experience in Perl, Python, TCL, or similar languages is necessary.
  • Foundational understanding of digital or custom IC design and static timing analysis through coursework or internship experience is required.
  • Exposure to tools such as NanoTime, ESP, PrimeTime, or HSPICE is a plus.
  • Knowledge of dynamic logic, memory arrays, or mixed-signal circuit techniques is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with SPICE netlists, device models, and parasitic extraction formats such as DSPF or SPF is required.
  • Knowledge of formal verification tools and concepts and experience with SystemVerilog RTL is necessary.
  • Interest in AI/ML-driven innovation for CAD workflows is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills to describe technical issues and follow them through to resolution are essential.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment is required.

Responsibilities

  • Support and develop flows for transistor-level timing verification and formal verification.
  • Collaborate with analog and digital designers across multiple programs and technology nodes.
  • Help set up flows and debug issues to achieve clean sign-off.
  • Contribute to the quality and schedule of Apple's most advanced chips.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
