Job description

Apple News is looking for an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to develop and manage the infrastructure that supports intelligent features for millions of users. This role requires expertise in model serving, deployment pipelines, and ML platform infrastructure. The engineer will work on challenges related to privacy-preserving personalization and the balance between editorial and algorithmic curation. Collaboration with various teams is essential to deliver impactful features that enhance user engagement and content quality.

Requirements

  • MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in machine learning infrastructure or software engineering with a strong ML systems focus.
  • Strong proficiency in Java and Python for production serving systems.
  • Hands-on experience building and shipping production ML infrastructure including model serving and deployment pipelines.
  • Experience deploying ML models on cloud platforms such as AWS and/or GCP.
  • Familiarity with inference optimization techniques such as quantization and batching.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate the infrastructure that powers ML-driven product features.
  • Own the systems that host, serve, and monitor both classical and deep learning models in production.
  • Evaluate trade-offs across tools and technologies and make sound architectural decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with modeling, product, data science, and platform teams to define requirements.
  • Drive ML infrastructure from concept to production ensuring reliability and scalability.
  • Build data pipelines for A/B test analysis and training dataset creation.
