Job description

The role involves building and supporting critical infrastructural systems and frameworks that provide services like storage, caching, and queueing at hyperscale. The team is responsible for the next generation platform that powers Apple's infrastructural services, impacting millions of users. The engineer will have significant responsibility and influence over the core platform's direction. This position requires a passion for software as a service to enhance efficiency and simplicity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, an engineering-related field, or equivalent related experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as a backend internet services software developer.
  • Deep understanding of multi-threading concepts and design of highly concurrent applications.
  • Understanding of distributed system concepts including the CAP Theorem, micro-services, and the Twelve Factor App.
  • Fluency in one or more high-level programming languages like Golang, Java, Python, or Ruby.
  • Understanding of base internet infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, LDAP, server virtualization, and server monitoring.
  • Experience with large scale server provisioning and maintenance.
  • Experience with development within the Kubernetes ecosystem.
  • Experience with UI frameworks such as React, Angular, or JQuery.
  • Exposure to hardware bootstrap and associated security.
  • Exposure to structured or unstructured storage and caching.
  • Exposure to automating operations processes via services and tools.
  • Exposure to configuration management and fleet orchestration tools.
  • Exposure to cloud services like AWS.

Responsibilities

  • Build and support new and existing critical infrastructural systems.
  • Design and implement services that operate at large scale and store exabytes of data.
  • Contribute to the development of open-source software and internally developed services.
  • Influence the direction of the core platform for Apple's internet services.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve software delivery as a service.
  • Ensure the platform supports a variety of services effectively.
