The role is for a senior engineer within the Insights & Extensions team at Amazon Athena, focusing on enhancing customer insights and simplifying the Athena experience. The team is responsible for developing new capabilities that help customers understand their query behaviors and optimize their usage of Athena. The position involves collaboration with other software development engineers and leadership in mentoring team members. The ideal candidate will leverage their programming skills and experience in AI/ML to drive valuable insights and improvements.

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems experience
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
• 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• 4+ years of highly scalable systems experience
• Experience with training and deploying machine learning systems or operating highly available, distributed systems

• Work on finding ways to help customers extend Athena simply and automate operations
• Develop solutions to provide customers with insights into their usage of Athena
• Collaborate with other SDEs and senior engineers to build and execute the team's roadmap
• Identify problems in the customer experience and create systems to address them
• Coach and mentor team members to enhance their skills and knowledge
