The Sr. HW Regulatory Compliance Engineer at Amazon Lab126 will play a crucial role in ensuring that innovative consumer electronics meet global regulatory standards. This position is part of the Hardware Safety & Compliance team, which integrates compliance into product design from the earliest stages. The engineer will work on Radio Frequency (RF) and ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) compliance, engaging with cross-disciplinary teams to shape product designs. The role involves navigating complex regulatory landscapes to enable market access for cutting-edge devices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave Design, EMC Design, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in regulatory compliance around Wireless, EMC, testing, and certification.
- 5+ years of experience in one or more wireless technologies (WLAN/BT/Zigbee/Cellular) with hands-on compliance testing.
- Experience in submissions for official certification through relevant compliance bodies such as FCC, ISED, UK, and CE.
- Hands-on experience in compliance test setup in semi-anechoic chambers and with test equipment like signal generators and spectrum analyzers.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with experience managing compliance programs and schedules.
Responsibilities
- Own compliance architecture for product programs end-to-end, embedding regulatory requirements into hardware design.
- Ensure products meet all applicable global regulatory standards across wireless, RF, EMC, and related technologies.
- Work closely with product management and design teams to research and specify regulatory compliance requirements.
- Drive EMI/EMC and RF compliance by design, conducting hands-on testing and debugging.
- Plan and direct compliance testing of hardware platforms with external 3rd party test labs.
- Navigate the global regulatory landscape across FCC, IC, CE, and international certification schemes.
- Review product designs for compliance readiness and perform risk assessments.
- Lead debugging, root cause analysis, and corrective action to address compliance risks.
- Deliver concise compliance updates to leadership, translating complex regulatory matters into clear business impact.
- Work with manufacturing partners and labs to ensure all in-production devices remain compliant.
- Create mechanisms and best practices to prevent repeat compliance issues and improve certification efficiency.
