Job description

The Senior Data Engineer for Product Engineering Partnership will serve as the technical lead embedded with product engineering teams, focusing on telemetry contracts and experimentation data infrastructure. This role requires a combination of deep production data experience and strong partnership instincts to co-design instrumentation and translate product questions into data systems. The position emphasizes building a data-driven feedback loop to enhance Global Skilling products. The candidate will also mentor junior engineers and ensure alignment with Microsoft-wide telemetry standards.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering.
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years of experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Own telemetry contracts and instrumentation that ship with Global Skilling products.
  • Design and operate experimentation data infrastructure, including A/B testing pipelines.
  • Build catalog and content management data integrations across the Global Skilling product surface.
  • Lead semantic model design for product analytics in partnership with Reporting and Analytics teams.
  • Build and maintain external reporting pipelines for ASN and partner-facing products.
  • Operate Insights and Analytics feedback loops to surface usage patterns and customer feedback.
  • Mentor Data Engineer II engineers on telemetry design and experimentation practices.
  • Partner with Microsoft-wide alignment forums to align telemetry standards.
  • Provide on-call leadership for product-tier pipelines.
