Job description

The Machine Learning Scientist role at Apple focuses on operationalizing and scaling forecasting models within the Worldwide Demand Planning team. This team ensures service continuity by accurately forecasting inventory needs across various channels. The position requires a blend of technical expertise and collaboration with data scientists and planners to enhance resource availability for millions of customers. The successful candidate will contribute to building the infrastructure that supports AppleCare's operations.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field with 3+ years of industry experience in deploying Machine Learning models, or a Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field with 6+ years of industry experience in deploying Machine Learning models.
  • Practical experience creating and deploying models in real-world environments, with specific expertise in Time Series forecasting, Anomaly Detection, or Optimization.
  • Expert proficiency in Python and a strong grasp of software design principles, data structures, and writing testable, maintainable code.
  • Expert-level SQL skills and experience working with large-scale distributed data processing frameworks.
  • Proven experience taking models from research prototypes to production systems using CI/CD, APIs, and containerization.
  • Ability to engineer novel features and apply advanced Time Series or ML techniques to solve complex demand challenges.
  • Proficiency in translating raw data into compelling narratives that drive strategic business decisions.
  • Proven track record of up-skilling teammates, bridging the gap between statistical analysis and software engineering.
