Job description

This role is for a software engineer in the AWS Perimeter Protection team, focusing on developing services that protect web applications against evolving threats. The team is responsible for innovative technologies like AWS Shield and AWS WAF, and aims to enhance customer security while maintaining high quality standards. Engineers will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with various specialists to deliver effective solutions. The position offers the chance to contribute to significant projects that defend large businesses from malicious attacks.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards and operations
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems that detect and mitigate DDoS attacks in real time.
  • Develop deep packet inspection and traffic analysis solutions to identify malicious patterns.
  • Build and optimize data-plane and control-plane components for AWS Network Firewall.
  • Own features end-to-end from gathering customer requirements through deployment and operational support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to research and deliver innovative anti-DDoS countermeasures.
  • Contribute to system architecture decisions that balance performance, cost, and security trade-offs.
  • Drive operational excellence through automation, monitoring, and participation in on-call rotations.
  • Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical documentation to maintain high engineering standards.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
