Job description
The Engineering Manager will lead a team focused on building real-time infrastructure and operational systems for live ad insertion at Netflix. This role is critical in ensuring the reliability and excellence of ad insertion during high-stakes live events and 24/7 linear streams. The team operates at the intersection of broadcast engineering, streaming infrastructure, and digital advertising, aiming to deliver a seamless ad experience. The manager will also define the technical roadmap and collaborate with various teams to ensure effective execution.
Requirements
- 10+ years of total engineering experience with 3+ years managing software engineering teams in a live media, streaming, or ad tech context.
- Deep hands-on experience with live streaming pipelines and ad insertion architectures.
- Expertise in broadcast signaling and manifest manipulation for ad stitching.
- Strong understanding of ad servers, DSPs, and VAST 4.x/VMAP in live contexts.
- Proven track record of engineering for high-availability, zero-downtime live events.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of engineers building the real-time infrastructure for live ad insertion.
- Own the reliability and operational excellence of ad insertion during live events.
- Define the technical roadmap for live ad insertion, including ad pod management and decisioning integration.
- Partner with ad operations and broadcast engineering teams to ensure seamless execution.
- Drive hiring, retention, and development of a high-performing engineering team.
