·FY 2025Job description
Apple's Private Cloud Compute team is seeking a highly technical Senior Engineer to lead the deployment of Large Language Models (LLMs) that enhance Apple Intelligence across millions of iOS devices. This role is critical to Apple's datacenter initiatives, focusing on the intersection of complex systems and high-stakes execution. The engineer will ensure that LLM inference is performant, secure, and reliable, while also driving the build pipelines and automation infrastructure. This hands-on position requires collaboration with various teams to validate and scale software on innovative compute platforms.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in release engineering, build infrastructure, and production releases for large-scale systems.
- Expert-level proficiency with C++, Swift, and Python toolchains.
- Proven track record of designing and operating large-scale build systems with a focus on cost efficiency, caching, and flake reduction.
- Experience shipping software on tight, non-negotiable deadlines tied to major hardware or OS launches.
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience; MS or PhD is a plus.
- Experience validating ML or LLM workloads running on hardware accelerators in cloud or datacenter environments.
- Experience building test infrastructure at the hardware-software boundary, including firmware, drivers, or low-level platform software.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency and performance profiling for high-performance computing workloads.
- Prior experience working in private cloud, hyperscale datacenter, or edge compute environments.
Responsibilities
- Drive the deployment of Large Language Models that power Apple Intelligence.
- Ensure LLM inference is performant, secure, and reliable.
- Operate across the full stack to prepare next-generation datacenter technology for scaling.
- Provide deep technical expertise to initiatives related to CI/CD systems and complex system-level issues.
- Collaborate with platform and software teams to validate novel compute platforms before production.
- Build tooling and automation to enhance Apple's operational speed and confidence.
- Partner with teams across Apple to adapt and scale software on novel compute platforms.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
