Job description
The role is for a senior engineer on the OpenSearch Control Plane team at Amazon, focusing on managing a large fleet of cloud-native OpenSearch clusters. The team is responsible for ensuring high availability and durability for mission-critical workloads while automating the lifecycle of OpenSearch clusters. Engineers will work with a variety of programming languages and contribute to both OpenSearch and Apache Lucene. The position emphasizes treating operations as core engineering and driving architectural decisions in a large-scale distributed system.
Requirements
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
- 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
- 5+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle, including coding standards and operations
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
Responsibilities
- Drive architectural decisions in a large-scale distributed system
- Simplify legacy designs while proposing new ones and eliminate accidental complexity
- Own the systems built end-to-end and lead incident response with customer-first urgency
- Lead design and development of complex services across various domains
- Build and apply AI fluency across the software development lifecycle
- Mentor and grow engineers across the team to raise the bar for software development
- Set technical direction and align solutions with customer needs and market opportunities
- Contribute upstream to OpenSearch and Apache Lucene
