Job description
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead the mechanical redesign of critical semiconductor inspection modules, focusing on Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) and High Voltage (HV) systems. This role involves providing technical leadership throughout the product lifecycle, from requirements definition to design and manufacturing transfer. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers while driving subsystem architecture and design decisions. The position is part of KLA's Global Products Group, which is dedicated to advancing semiconductor manufacturing technologies.
Requirements
- Doctorate degree with 3 years of related work experience, or a Master's degree with 6 years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience.
- Deep expertise in precision mechanical design for semiconductor capital equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of UHV system design and vacuum hardware.
- Strong understanding of high-voltage mechanical integration and safety considerations.
- Expert-level skills in GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacturing practices.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary technical projects.
- Advanced knowledge of FEA, thermal analysis, and structural mechanics.
- Demonstrated supplier management experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
- Excellent technical communication and collaboration abilities.
- Expert proficiency with Creo/ProE or similar CAD tools.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of complex UHV and HV mechanical systems and assemblies.
- Own subsystem architecture and technical decision-making.
- Drive major redesign initiatives to improve performance and reliability.
- Lead tolerance analysis and performance verification.
- Define and execute structural and reliability analyses.
- Lead design reviews and develop mitigation plans for technical risks.
- Partner with various teams to ensure successful integration.
- Build strong technical relationships with suppliers.
- Lead root-cause investigations and resolve complex issues.
- Develop qualification strategies and validate subsystem performance.
- Mentor junior engineers and establish engineering best practices.
- Support product roadmap planning and future architecture development.
