Job description

The Mechanical Design Engineer will play a crucial role in the redesign of a semiconductor inspection module, focusing on Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) and High Voltage (HV) systems. This position is part of KLA's Global Products Group, which is dedicated to advancing semiconductor manufacturing technologies. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to ensure robust and manufacturable designs while meeting performance and reliability objectives. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative solutions that impact the semiconductor industry significantly.

Requirements

  • Doctorate (Academic) Degree with 0 years of related work experience, Master's Level Degree with 3 years of related work experience, or Bachelor's Level Degree with 5 years of related work experience.
  • Good understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, physics, and precision engineering.
  • Experience designing assemblies operating in vacuum, UHV, or cleanroom environments.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage system considerations including insulation, creepage, clearance, and electrical interfaces.
  • Experience with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and precision mechanical design.
  • Familiarity with vacuum-compatible materials, cleaning requirements, and contamination control practices.
  • Working knowledge of machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, brazing, and precision manufacturing processes.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency with Creo/ProE or similar 3D CAD platforms.
  • Experience with FEA and engineering simulation tools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical designs for UHV and HV subsystems, assemblies, and supporting hardware.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, and BOMs.
  • Apply GD&T principles, tolerance stack-up analysis, and error budgeting methodologies.
  • Support redesign efforts for existing products with emphasis on reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability improvements.
  • Conduct engineering analyses including structural, thermal, vibration, and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Participate in design reviews and support release of production documentation.
  • Work with suppliers to develop fabrication methods, resolve manufacturability issues, and improve component quality.
  • Support assembly, integration, qualification, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Investigate failures and drive root-cause corrective actions.
  • Collaborate across Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Electron Optics, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Service organizations.
  • Support prototype builds and product introduction into manufacturing.

Benefits

  • Employees at KLA are often offered competitive pay with bonuses, a 401(k) match, an employee stock purchase program, and financial perks like student-debt assistance, planning support, and group insurance discounts. Health and lifestyle benefits typically include medical/dental/vision, life and other voluntary coverages, paid time off and holidays, family leave, backup care, wellness rewards, gym discounts, and community-volunteering opportunities. Employees also get strong growth support through tuition reimbursement, KLA’s corporate learning center, education awards, and engineering certification programs.
