Job description
The Staff Automation Engineer for Pixel Watch at Google will play a crucial role in leading the specification, development, and implementation of automated manufacturing equipment. This position involves close collaboration with design engineering to influence early hardware design decisions and working with manufacturing partners to develop efficient assembly processes. The engineer will be responsible for managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects throughout the product development lifecycle. The goal is to ensure the delivery of high-quality smartwatches that enhance user experience.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automation/Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 8 years of experience in technical program management and automation engineering.
- Experience leading the specification, development, and implementation of automated manufacturing equipment.
- Experience working with design teams early in the hardware lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Influence product definition and architecture selection in collaboration with product design teams.
- Generate detailed functional requirements specifications for various automated assembly operations.
- Partner with manufacturing and automation equipment providers to design and qualify automated solutions.
- Develop automation implementation schedules and provide technical oversight during testing activities.
- Manage cross-functional programs with global teams to ensure factory readiness and successful product delivery.
