The Research Strategist for the Emerging Impacts Team at DeepMind will focus on delivering insights related to the ethical and societal implications of AI technology. This role involves collaborating with technical and operational teams to ensure that DeepMind's research aligns with best practices in ethics and safety. The strategist will assess the safety performance and real-world impact of AI models, contributing to the responsible development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Ultimately, this position aims to advance DeepMind's mission for the greater good of humanity.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in AI ethics and safety within a governance, policy, legal, or research role.
- Experience leading end-to-end assessments of ethical and societal questions related to technology development.
Responsibilities
- Support the responsibility and safety council by frequently presenting project assessments and communicating with executive stakeholders.
- Develop and document best practices for DeepMind projects by working with internal experts and external organizations.
- Design and run engagement models, such as workshops and external expert consultations, to address ethics and safety issues.
- Collaborate closely with DeepMind safety communities and broader teams to inform model policy and refine assessment frameworks.
- Lead ethics and safety reviews of projects and engage early with model teams to assess downstream societal implications.
