Job description

The Structural and Dynamic Systems Tech Specialist – Analytical will join the engineering team at Cummins in Stoughton, WI, focusing on enhancing structural performance metrics and enabling high-quality design decisions. This role involves collaboration with various engineering disciplines to drive cross-functional alignment and improve engineering processes. The specialist will also mentor less experienced engineers and influence technical direction within the team. The position requires advanced modeling expertise and a strong problem-solving approach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a relevant STEM field is required.
  • Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required.
  • Preferred candidates would have experience using MS Office tools, Matlab, Python, APDL-ANSYS, FORTRAN or C programming.
  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, with a PhD being a plus.
  • Familiarity with low- and high-cycle metal fatigue principles is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drive cross-functional alignment by partnering with various engineering teams.
  • Make data-driven structural design choices to improve durability and performance.
  • Apply and enhance modeling tools to predict motion, loads, and fatigue life.
  • Lead smaller high-impact projects or take ownership of complex systems.
  • Develop and standardize modeling methods and workflows for efficiency.
  • Deliver high-quality results using established processes while deepening technical expertise.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers through knowledge sharing.
  • Act as a subject matter specialist to influence project decisions.
