Job description

Jacobs is seeking a Lead Transportation Drainage Engineer to join the Nashville team, focusing on delivering innovative drainage solutions for highway and bridge projects across Tennessee. This role involves strengthening local drainage capabilities and supporting client relationships with the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The engineer will lead technical delivery and contribute to business development initiatives while mentoring junior engineers. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence project delivery and build a high-performing drainage team in the Southeast.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Tennessee, or ability to obtain within six months if licensed in another state.
  • 8 or more years of experience delivering drainage designs and hydrologic/hydraulic analyses for mid- to large-scale transportation projects.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver enclosed storm drainage analysis and design for urban and rural transportation projects.
  • Perform drainage analysis and design in accordance with project requirements and applicable agency criteria, including TDOT standards.
  • Provide hydraulic analysis for cross-drainage structures and integrate results with roadway and bridge designs.
  • Design and analyze stormwater management and water quality facilities.
  • Support preparation of contract documents including drainage plans, specifications, cost estimates, and quantities.
  • Prepare project-specific drainage reports, hydraulic studies, and technical memoranda.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by leveraging TDOT and local agency relationships.
  • Mentor and support the technical development of junior engineers and designers.
