Job description
Qualcomm Atheros, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the WLAN HAL-PHY firmware team. This role requires deep technical expertise in firmware development, from architecture to customer release. The engineer will drive design decisions, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and elevate firmware quality using AI-assisted development tools. Success in this position involves hands-on coding, mentorship, and ownership of complex debugging problems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering experience, or a Master's degree with 3+ years, or a PhD with 2+ years.
- 2+ years of experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python.
Responsibilities
- Lead software architecture enhancements using established software design patterns.
- Write, review, and own production-quality low-level firmware in a resource-constrained embedded environment.
- Develop WLAN offload firmware running on dedicated co-processor cores.
- Diagnose and resolve complex WLAN and RF system performance issues.
- Design, implement, unit test, and document features for next-generation WLAN platforms.
- Partner with chip designers and RF specialists during silicon bring-up and lab validation.
- Optimize firmware for maximum throughput and minimal latency.
- Support customer launch and release cycles, resolving production field issues.
- Use AI coding assistants as active partners during firmware development.
- Leverage MCP server toolchains for code navigation and crash dump analysis.
- Participate in and help refine the team's AI-assisted SDLC pipeline.
- Drive technical documentation standards and code review culture across the team.
