Job description

The Apple Acoustics Engineering Project Manager (EPM) will drive the research, design, development, and integration of new audio hardware and technologies into Apple products like AirPods, iPad, iPhone, and MacBook. This role involves overseeing internal efforts of various teams and coordinating with external partners in hardware and software engineering. The EPM will manage project definitions, development schedules, and status updates while advocating for high-quality acoustic performance. Success in this position is measured by the quality and timeliness of pre-production builds and mass production starts.

Requirements

  • BS Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Electrical Engineering is required.
  • 2-4 years of project management experience is required.
  • A strong technical background in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, acoustics, and/or software development is required.
  • Excellent listening, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Strong cross-functional coordination and project management skills are required.
  • Experience in consumer hardware and software is required.
  • Experience with speakers, microphones, receivers, audio DSP, audio algorithms, machine learning, and/or consumer/device software is a bonus.
  • An interest in audio is required.
  • MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • 2+ years of project management experience is preferred.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with creative and critical thinking capabilities is required.
  • Ability to travel internationally to support builds is required.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the research, design, development, and integration of audio hardware and technologies.
  • Oversee internal efforts of the Acoustics Hardware, Algorithms, User Interface, and Validation teams.
  • Lead cross-functional coordination with external partners in hardware and software engineering.
  • Define and drive the build and development plans for audio hardware and software.
  • Manage and communicate project definitions, development landmarks, schedules, and project status.
  • Identify and resolve potential pitfalls to the schedule and risks to product quality.
  • Advocate for the best overall acoustic performance throughout the organization.
  • Prioritize issues and track details to ensure timely delivery of acoustic modules.
  • Facilitate risk management and communicate status and issues to the development team and Apple executives.
