Job description

The Senior Software Engineer will join the Microsoft Discovery team to develop an AI-driven platform aimed at transforming the scientific research process. This role involves working in a dynamic, startup-like environment where innovation and collaboration are key. The team focuses on leveraging AI agents and high-performance computing to enhance research and development across various industries. Candidates will be expected to contribute to a culture of inclusion and continuous improvement while tackling complex challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and enterprise-scale services is preferred.
  • Familiarity with widely used scientific tools in chemistry, physics, and bio sciences is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in building and operating reliable distributed systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable, distributed systems from the ground up.
  • Drive features from ideation to global rollout.
  • Mentor engineers and lead design/code reviews.
  • Improve engineering velocity and service reliability through adoption of AI-enabled process enhancements.
  • Collaborate across Microsoft Research and platform teams to integrate cutting-edge technologies.
  • Apply site-reliability engineering practices to ensure robust operations.
