Job description

The AWS Managed Operations (MO) organization is seeking highly motivated Systems Development Engineers to balance day-to-day operations with long-term software engineering projects. The team focuses on improving the reliability, performance, and efficiency of AWS regions while reducing operational toil. Engineers will work collaboratively across diverse teams to innovate solutions and tackle complex technical challenges. This role offers opportunities for mentorship and career growth within a supportive and inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience designing or architecting systems for reliability and scaling.
  • 5+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, and operating systems.
  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust.
  • Experience with distributed systems at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate production issues and implement fixes to restore system health.
  • Identify patterns across service incidents and design solutions to address them.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of Service Level Objectives and update infrastructure as code.
  • Design and build systems that improve fleet management and performance.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to innovate solutions for complex technical problems.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
