Job description
The Production Metal Frameworks team at Apple is seeking a motivated technical manager to lead the design and development of the Metal API. This role involves collaborating with various software teams to enhance GPU experiences across Apple's platforms. The manager will leverage their understanding of GPU technologies to unlock the potential of Apple Silicon for developers. The position requires strong leadership skills and a solid foundation in systems engineering.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with GPU APIs such as Metal, DirectX, Vulkan, and CUDA.
- Solid foundation in systems engineering, including OS fundamentals and performance analysis.
- Prior experience as a manager or tech lead driving large engineering projects.
- Demonstrated software design, debugging, and performance analysis abilities.
- Strong programming skills in C, C++, and Objective-C.
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
- Multiple years of experience managing engineering teams and managing managers.
- Wide knowledge of graphics and compute APIs and their evolution.
- Detailed knowledge of GPU architecture and performance characteristics.
- Familiarity with machine learning fundamentals and ML frameworks.
- Familiarity with Apple framework and API design patterns and Swift programming.
- Top-notch communication skills with the ability to influence across teams.
Responsibilities
- Own the design and implementation of the Metal API.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with software teams inside and outside of Apple.
- Define and deliver the next generation of Metal.
- Drive large engineering projects through definition, planning, and execution phases.
- Enhance GPU experiences across Apple's innovative products.
