Job description

Next Gen Computing (NGC) at Apple is seeking a highly motivated product prototyping engineer to join their team. This role focuses on building functional prototypes that bring new concepts to life and assist in decision-making for future Apple products. The team combines expertise in various engineering disciplines to create integrated prototypes that emphasize user experience and reliability. Candidates will work closely with industrial designers and engineers to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Requirements

  • Strong foundation in product design with sensitivity to industrial design.
  • Experience working with 3D and 2D CAD.
  • Experience with fabrication tools and processes.
  • Ability to evolve demonstration prototypes into stable platforms for extended testing and evaluation.
  • Excellent storytelling and communication skills.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a technically equivalent field.
  • A portfolio demonstrating earlier work/ideas.
  • 5+ years of product design/prototyping experience, or an MS/PhD in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Build functional, integrated prototypes and platforms that bring new concepts to life.
  • Move from sketched concepts to hands-on integrated prototypes.
  • Ensure prototypes are user-facing and maintain a high level of functionality.
  • Collaborate with a variety of disciplines including industrial designers and engineers.
  • Balance speed with fidelity in prototype development.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
