Job description
The Systems Engineer at Amazon Robotics serves as the primary technical bridge between customers and engineering teams, focusing on translating complex requirements into actionable engineering specifications. This senior solo contributor role requires strong judgment and strategic thinking to guide system-level initiatives from customer engagement to product validation. The Matrix team is dedicated to developing advanced sensor and compute systems for intelligent robots, emphasizing rapid experimentation and cross-functional collaboration. The role involves overseeing the full requirements lifecycle and influencing design decisions across multiple engineering disciplines.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or equivalent.
- 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, product definition, or technical program management for hardware products.
- Demonstrated experience as the primary technical interface with customers, gathering requirements and translating them into engineering specifications.
- 2 years of experience leading system architecture decisions across multiple engineering disciplines in a product development environment.
- 2 years of experience developing system requirements, functional specifications, interface control documents, and verification/validation plans.
- Proven ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous situations, defining both the problem and the solution.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting technical content to leadership and diverse stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Oversee customer discovery sessions to uncover latent requirements and translate them into quantifiable design goals.
- Own the full requirements lifecycle from capture through validation, formalizing specifications in tools like Jama.
- Drive system architecture selections for sensor and compute products, making trade-offs across various engineering domains.
- Develop system requirements, functional specs, and verification plans while guiding cross-functional design reviews.
- Own product verification end-to-end by defining test specs and directing verification campaigns.
- Influence across disciplines, mentor engineers on systems thinking and customer engagement, and contribute to hiring efforts.
Benefits
- Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
