Job description

The Materials Science Engineering Technical Specialist will join the Engineering team at Cummins Drivetrain and Braking Systems in Troy, MI. This role focuses on applying advanced statistical methods and conducting thorough failure analyses to improve product and process outcomes. The specialist will also optimize material selection and enhance material robustness through detailed characterization. Collaboration with suppliers and effective technical communication are essential for success in this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required.
  • A solid understanding of casting processes and material behavior is necessary.
  • Strong report-writing skills to document investigations and communicate findings are essential.
  • Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced statistical methods to deliver evidence-driven recommendations.
  • Conduct thorough component failure analyses to identify root causes.
  • Evaluate component requirements and select appropriate materials and manufacturing routes.
