This role is for a software engineer on the Platform Engineering team at Microsoft, focused on building an AI-first developer platform to enhance the developer experience for engineering teams. The position emphasizes hands-on development, collaboration with product teams, and leveraging agents to modernize complex systems. The engineer will work closely with teams to create useful solutions that drive adoption of the platform. This is an opportunity to shape the future of development workflows and improve deployment processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
- Hands-on experience using generative AI and agents to build production software.
- Depth in distributed systems, microservices, and cloud infrastructure, including CI/CD.
Responsibilities
- Work with product teams to find the highest-leverage places to modernize onto the platform.
- Prototype and build proof-of-concept and reference implementations.
- Pair with product teams and forward-deployed architects on their toughest problems.
- Own how systems compose on the platform, including cross-cutting dependencies and interfaces.
- Take on-call for what you help ship and mentor the engineers you work with.
- Feed what you learn on the hardest problems back into the platform to improve golden paths.
Benefits
- Employees at Microsoft are often offered comprehensive, “world-class” benefits—including health and mental-wellness programs, competitive pay with bonuses and stock awards, and retirement/savings options. Time-off and flexibility are common, with generous vacation and holidays, parental and caregiver leave, and flexible work schedules, alongside learning support, employee resource groups, product discounts, and matching-gifts/volunteering programs. Specific benefits can vary by region.
