Job description
The PCBA Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Engineer at Apple plays a crucial role in bridging innovative design and mass production. This position involves collaborating with various teams, including Product Design and Electrical Engineering, to develop and produce challenging consumer PCBA designs. The engineer will focus on optimizing design processes while ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness. This role also emphasizes minimizing environmental impact throughout the manufacturing process.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in PCBA, electronic assembly, or a related field.
- Demonstrated high level of creativity and intellectual curiosity, particularly in materials science and electronics packaging.
- Robust understanding of engineering fundamentals, including material science and thermodynamics.
- Proficiency with industry-standard CAD tools like Siemens NX and Valor.
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally up to 25%.
- Familiarity with various advanced soldering methods.
- Deep understanding of PCBA material selection considerations.
- Knowledge of PCB Fabrication and First-Level Interconnect Si Packaging processes.
- Experience with common PCBA inspection and test techniques.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards.
- Proficiency with statistical process control and data analysis software.
- Ability to leverage programming and scripting for problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with Product Design, Electrical Engineering, and other teams.
- Develop, productize, and mass produce consumer PCBA designs.
- Optimize holistic PCBA and process design while balancing various considerations.
- Conduct advanced tolerance analysis for PCBA and equipment design.
- Apply advanced simulation tools to mitigate manufacturing risks.
- Plan for strategic high-volume manufacturing, including line planning and capital expenditure analysis.
- Lead root cause and failure analysis investigations.
- Utilize internal LLM based tools for automating workflows in design and manufacturing.
