Job description

The Mechanical Product Design Engineer III role at Google involves working within a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team to tackle various engineering challenges. The engineer will utilize their creativity and engineering expertise to design, analyze, and prototype new concepts in a manufacturing-oriented environment. This position focuses on developing high-speed I/O and interconnect cables and connectors, contributing to the advancement of Google's product offerings. The role also emphasizes collaboration with suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure successful product development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes.
  • 3 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of high-speed I/O and interconnect cables and connectors.
  • Concept and design the next-generation families of cables to meet the expanding needs for both internal and external PCIe solutions.
  • Design Ethernet electrical cables to meet and exceed industry specifications.
  • Perform tolerance analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on mating designs.
  • Develop thorough cable specifications that address electrical and mechanical performance, quality, ergonomics, and serviceability.
  • Drive suppliers to provide functioning prototypes for early evaluation and identify design weaknesses.
