Job description

The Software Engineer, Infrastructure, Public Sector role at Google focuses on developing and securing sovereign cloud platforms within the Cloud Expansion Air-Gapped team. The position requires a blend of software development skills and experience in deploying and managing infrastructure in secure environments. Engineers will work on critical projects that support government and educational institutions, ensuring systems operate reliably and effectively. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience deploying, configuring, and troubleshooting infrastructure or large-scale distributed systems.
  • Must possess an active Top Secret/SCI security clearance, and the willingness to undergo a polygraph.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute project work, manage priorities, and drive progress.
  • Participate in system design for cloud expansion with senior guidance.
  • Deploy and configure air-gapped solutions like Google Distributed Cloud (GDC).
  • Install and configure core infrastructure: network switches, firewalls, block/object storage, servers, and hardware security modules (HSMs).
  • Identify deployment requirement issues and help the team course-correct.
  • Triage infrastructure errors and address commonly escalated issues.
  • Leverage scripting and automation to improve deployment, configuration, and management for air-gapped solutions.
  • Communicate deployment knowledge within and across teams.
