Job description

The Software Development Engineer in Test role at Apple focuses on validating and advancing location algorithms that power various Apple products. The Sensing and Connectivity team seeks an engineer to ensure the accuracy and reliability of these algorithms, which are critical for applications like Maps Navigation and Emergency SOS. The position involves defining performance metrics and driving continuous improvement through data analysis. The ideal candidate will work at the intersection of algorithm development and quality engineering, contributing to innovative solutions that enhance user experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in GNSS algorithm testing, positioning validation, or wireless system verification.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, scripting, and automation.
  • Experience with GNSS simulation equipment and RF record-and-playback systems.
  • Solid understanding of positioning accuracy metrics and statistical methods for evaluating algorithm performance.
  • Familiarity with QA methodologies and test automation strategy.
  • Knowledge of the chipset validation lifecycle from silicon bring-up through production-level algorithm tuning.
  • Understanding of A-GNSS protocols and multi-constellation processing.
  • Experience with genAI in applications to anomaly detection or automated log analysis.
  • Ability to read and interpret 3GPP location-service specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Measure, characterize, and improve the accuracy and reliability of location algorithms.
  • Define what 'correct' looks like for positioning accuracy.
  • Evaluate algorithm changes against ground-truth data.
  • Design experiments and build analysis pipelines.
  • Run validation campaigns to ensure algorithms meet Apple's standards.
  • Present algorithm validation results to cross-functional audiences.
  • Drive continuous improvement through data-driven insights.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
