Job description

As an ASIC Design Engineer on the ANE DMA Design team, you will be responsible for designing high-performance DMA engines that facilitate data movement between memory and the Apple Neural Engine. This role involves end-to-end ownership of DMA subsystem blocks, collaborating with architecture and verification teams throughout the design cycle. Your work will impact Apple products used by billions, focusing on complex challenges such as fetch sequencing and pipeline hazard resolution. You will also ensure functional correctness through collaboration with design verification teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 3 years of industry experience.
  • Experience designing SoC front-end RTL in Verilog or SystemVerilog through at least one tapeout.
  • Experience designing DMA microarchitecture including address sequencing and flow control.
  • Familiarity with on-chip bus protocols such as AMBA AXI, AHB, and APB.
  • Background in hardware compression, networking SoCs, or AI/ML accelerators.
  • Experience writing precise micro-architectural specifications.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Tcl for design automation.

Responsibilities

  • Take end-to-end ownership of DMA blocks through the full design cycle.
  • Write well-parameterized RTL structured for correct synthesis and low power.
  • Collaborate with designers and architecture teams to explore microarchitectural trade-offs.
  • Work closely with design verification teams to ensure functional correctness.
  • Review test plans and debug failures to ensure the design's intended behavior.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
