The Range & Efficiency Development Engineer at Rivian plays a crucial role in supporting the R&E Attributes process during vehicle validation. This position involves test planning, vehicle preparation, and data analysis, focusing on optimizing vehicle efficiency and performance. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to ensure comprehensive testing and data collection. Requirements
- Hands-on knowledge of dynamometer testing and coastdown testing is a plus.
- Capability to manage multiple test activities in parallel for different programs.
- Working knowledge of vehicle communication network systems such as CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.
- Experience in 1D simulation, data analysis, and test scripting/automation using C/C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience in debugging and resolving hardware and software issues at the vehicle level.
- Ability to instrument a vehicle and operate data acquisition systems such as CANalyzer and Hioki.
- Excellent communication skills in both technical and non-technical environments.
- A strong desire to create the very best product as part of a capable team.
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, with a preference for a Master's or PhD.
Responsibilities
- Execute vehicle level static and dynamic efficiency test activities per test plans developed in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Conduct 1D vehicle level simulations to optimize vehicle powertrain efficiency, aerodynamics, thermal strategies, and tire rolling resistance.
- Document findings and recommendations for range and efficiency improvements, providing actionable insights for future product iterations.
- Run vehicle test procedures using hub and chassis dynamometer and complete post-processing and data analysis.
- Instrument vehicles with necessary data acquisition hardware for data collection.
- Work closely with software and hardware teams to ensure representative vehicles are being tested.
- Retrieve, store, and share logged data from tests with different teams.
