Job description

The Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering at DoorDash Labs will oversee the manufacturing process and equipment for the autonomous food delivery platform. This role involves defining how major systems are manufactured and assembled, while also building a team to scale production. The team is focused on innovation in automation and robotics to enhance logistics efficiency. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced startup environment and be excited about solving complex engineering challenges.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical engineering background with hands-on ownership of manufacturing processes and equipment for complex, multi-system electromechanical products.
  • Direct experience taking a product from prototype into high-volume production.
  • Experience with electric propulsion and powertrains, and sufficient electrical fluency to work across the mechanical/electrical boundary.
  • Proven ability to qualify and develop suppliers and contract manufacturers while driving quality and yield improvements.
  • Comfortable improving manufacturing processes and addressing quality problems effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end manufacturing process and equipment from incoming components through final assembly and functional testing.
  • Work directly with design engineers to influence design for manufacturability early in the process.
  • Select and implement the appropriate manufacturing execution system (MES) to ensure traceability and serialization.
  • Qualify and hold suppliers and contract manufacturers to high standards through on-site visits and audits.
  • Own and analyze key metrics such as first-pass yield, cost per unit, throughput, and scrap/rework to drive improvements.
  • Hire, mentor, and grow the manufacturing engineering team while serving as the technical authority on process changes.
