Job description

As an ASIC Design Engineer on the ANE DMA Design team, you will be responsible for designing high-performance DMA engines that facilitate data movement between memory and the Apple Neural Engine. This role involves taking end-to-end ownership of complex DMA subsystem blocks and mentoring junior engineers. You will work on microarchitecture specifications through to tapeout, ensuring that the designs meet performance, power, and area targets. Your contributions will impact Apple products used by billions of people daily.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 10 years of industry experience
  • Experience designing SoC front-end RTL in Verilog or SystemVerilog through multiple tapeouts
  • Experience collaborating across design verification, formal verification, architecture, and physical implementation teams
  • Experience designing DMA microarchitecture including address sequencing and flow control
  • Experience with on-chip bus protocols such as AMBA AXI, AHB, and APB
  • Background in high-bandwidth domains like networking SoCs or AI/ML accelerators
  • A track record of writing precise micro-architectural specifications
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Tcl

Responsibilities

  • Take end-to-end ownership of DMA subsystems through the full cycle from microarchitecture specification to design verification closure
  • Write well-parameterized RTL structured for clean timing and low power
  • Collaborate across design, architecture, and physical implementation teams to drive solutions that meet performance, power, and area targets
  • Work closely with design verification and formal verification teams to ensure functional correctness
  • Review test plans, debug failures, and confirm the design's intended behavior is fully exercised

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
