Job description

The AWS Environmental team is seeking a candidate to lead environmental due diligence and permitting strategies for AWS data centers and infrastructure. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental regulations while supporting the construction and operation of AWS facilities. The successful candidate will have a strong background in environmental permitting and compliance, particularly within the context of large-scale infrastructure projects. The team is dedicated to driving sustainability goals and ensuring effective engagement across AWS business units.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, civil engineering or related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance for existing sites and new development.
  • 7+ years experience conducting environmental due diligence for greenfield and brownfield sites, including Phase I and Phase II ESAs.
  • 5+ years of project management experience for environmental permitting and/or due diligence projects.
  • Experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance projects with specific expertise in CWA 404 and NPDES permitting.
  • Experience managing and/or supporting community/public interactions.
  • Experience with Smartsheets or other project management software.
  • Up to 25% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Assess environmental risks and requirements and develop mitigations and strategies to support data center siting and development strategies.
  • Lead technical aspects of environmental due diligence, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Deliver environmental permits, approvals, and plans to enable on-time and compliant construction and operations for new data center locations.
  • Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.
  • Coordinate with partner teams to optimize site designs considering natural resource or operational constraints.
  • Develop site development and permitting strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable.
  • Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations in support of environmental permit acquisition.
  • Develop detailed compliance plans for environmental permits.
  • Develop, manage and track metrics to evaluate project success and compliance status.
