The Perception Mapping Lead at Rivian will be responsible for expanding mapping capabilities for both consumer and robotaxi autonomy platforms. This role involves close collaboration with the autonomy organization to define and implement a long-term mapping strategy. The successful candidate will also take charge of delivering essential perception components and may lead a team of contributors based on their experience. The position emphasizes innovative problem-solving and the integration of perception systems within safety-critical environments.

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Extensive experience developing perception systems for map generation and maintenance using Machine Learning, Computer Vision, SLAM, and state estimation.
• Proven track record in software engineering and systems design for building and distributing map data at scale.
• Deep understanding of various map representations, including high-definition (HD) and standard-definition (SD) frameworks.
• Broad comprehension of full-stack perception systems, including modern development tools and testing frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to isolate and resolve complex engineering issues across the software stack.
• Strong capability to drive technical progress across complex systems involving multiple domains and stakeholders.
• Excellent cross-functional coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Collaborate with the broader autonomy organization to develop and refine the mapping strategy for consumer and robotaxi platforms.
• Design, build, evaluate, deploy, and maintain core perception components critical to the mapping infrastructure.
• Ensure robust integration and deterministic performance of mapping software within real-time, safety-critical systems.
