Job description

Apple's Camera & Photos Tools & AI team is seeking a versatile Software Engineer to design, build, and own internal tooling that supports imaging engineering and quality workflows. The team focuses on creating reliable and maintainable software solutions that integrate AI capabilities into imaging processes. You will work across the full stack, from Swift applications to Python service backends, while collaborating with various engineering and science teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in software engineering and a passion for developing innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production software.
  • Proficiency in at least two of: Swift, Python, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Strong understanding of REST API design and experience building production REST services.
  • Experience building web frontends with React or native macOS or iOS apps in SwiftUI.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating AI/ML models into production software systems.
  • Working knowledge of asynchronous job execution patterns for long-running computations.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals: data modeling, API design, testing, debugging, and code review.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience building production features with LLM APIs.
  • Familiarity with multimodal or computer vision models applied to image analysis.
  • Experience with vector databases or semantic search for unstructured data retrieval.
  • Understanding of MLOps principles.
  • Awareness of bias and fairness considerations in AI systems.
  • Experience developing native macOS or iOS applications in Swift.
  • Experience designing and operating distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with search platforms for indexing and querying large datasets.
  • Familiarity with Redis as a cache or message broker.
  • Comfort working with image data and scientific workflows.
  • Exceptional cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Comfortable and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own end-to-end development of internal tooling for imaging workflows.
  • Contribute to multiple Swift applications, React-based web frontends, and Python REST API services.
  • Collaborate with engineering, science, and quality teams to understand their workflows.
  • Integrate AI capabilities into imaging processes and develop AI-native tooling.
  • Write maintainable and reliable code across client, web, and backend systems.
  • Debug and optimize asynchronous compute jobs.
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration to align with partner teams.
  • Ensure AI-powered features meet engineering standards for reliability and maintainability.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
