Job description
The Camera Intelligence team at Apple is seeking a senior ML engineer to develop and deploy machine learning systems for mobile imaging experiences across iPhone and iPad. This role involves transforming research ideas into efficient, on-device features that enhance user experiences. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in machine learning and computer vision to influence technical direction and mentor other engineers. The position requires a balance of pushing the boundaries of technology while ensuring reliable performance in production.
Requirements
- 10+ years of combined research and hands-on engineering experience building and shipping ML systems, ideally with a strong foundation in computer vision.
- Proven track record productizing ML research by taking models from prototype to on-device deployment.
- Experience designing and scaling ML pipelines against large, real-world datasets.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in setting technical direction and driving cross-functional initiatives.
- Depth in one or more areas such as image processing, optical flow, or modern deep learning architectures.
- Fluent in modern ML frameworks, particularly PyTorch, and proficient with the core scientific/imaging Python stack.
Responsibilities
- Apply ML and computer vision expertise to build, evaluate, and ship models for Apple's imaging experiences.
- Transform early-stage ideas into commercially viable, efficient, on-device algorithms.
- Stay current with developments in computer vision, deep learning, and adjacent ML fields.
- Influence technical direction across the team and Apple's products.
- Optimize models for on-device/edge inference, including techniques like quantization and pruning.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
