Job description

As a Software Functional Safety Engineer at Rivian, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of embedded software and control algorithms for power electronics components. You will work within a diverse team that values innovation and a passion for the outdoors. This position requires deep technical expertise and the ability to influence cross-functional teams while driving supplier strategy and shaping engineering standards. Your contributions will help maintain Rivian's commitment to functional safety in its electric adventure vehicles.

Requirements

  • MS, BS, or PhD degree in Electrical, Embedded, or Software Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience developing and implementing embedded software and controls with a functional safety engineering background in ISO 26262
  • In-depth understanding of systems and software design architecture for Power Electronics applications
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, and LIN
  • Knowledge of failure modes and failure effects of embedded software and controls design
  • Experience with requirements management tools, issue tracking tools, and software version control tools
  • Experience with C programming and/or model-based design using Simulink
  • Strong team player with a drive to exceed expectations and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Perform software safety analysis of embedded software and control algorithms to address safety anomalies
  • Develop SW-FTA, SW-FMEA, Freedom from interference, and dependent failure analysis for embedded software
  • Develop software safety concepts, requirements, and architecture while driving safety implementation within the software design team
  • Support hardware safety analysis and hardware safety requirements development
  • Develop traceability between software, technical safety requirements, relevant test cases, and work products
  • Support the software test team in executing test cases and troubleshooting on various test setups
  • Analyze and break vehicle level technical safety requirements into detailed software safety requirements
  • Support defining programming and coding guidelines for software development teams
