Job description

The role involves owning key aspects of electrical and system design integration for the MacBook Air, focusing on defining, designing, and validating electrical subsystems. The position requires collaboration with experts across various engineering teams to deliver high-quality products. Candidates will apply their expertise in system architecture, circuit design, and PCB design to solve complex integration challenges. The role also includes driving technical decisions and supporting product development through mass production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of industry experience designing consumer electronics and/or embedded systems.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals, including analog and digital circuit design.
  • Experience in circuit design across a broad range of domains, including power and high-speed interfaces.
  • Strong PCB layout expertise spanning constrained multilayer designs and high-speed interfaces.
  • Proficiency with Allegro or equivalent PCB design tools.
  • Experience with electrical validation and debug using high-speed oscilloscopes and protocol analyzers.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping and first-to-market product development.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and debug complex technical problems.
  • Solid understanding of design and validation requirements for common interfaces.
  • Experience with schematic capture and constraint-driven PCB design using EDA tools.
  • Experience with numerical modeling, simulation, and analysis tools.
  • Experience with data analysis, visualization, and scripting to automate workflows.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with system architects to translate product requirements into robust electrical subsystem designs.
  • Define, design, simulate, test, and validate electrical subsystem designs.
  • Develop schematics and implement highly constrained multilayer PCBs.
  • Collaborate closely with PCB designers to deliver robust implementations.
  • Present design proposals and tradeoffs to cross-functional partners and engineering leadership.
  • Drive technical discussions and build alignment through design reviews.
  • Lead system bring-up and debugging of complex hardware issues.
  • Drive system validation in collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Own the subsystem through mass production and support factory builds.
  • Resolve line-down issues and root-cause manufacturing and yield excursions.
  • Implement robust design improvements to enhance product quality and manufacturability.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
