Job description
The Data Center Plant Engineer, Controls role at Google focuses on maintaining and improving the efficiency of data center systems. The team is responsible for operating sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems, ensuring environmental and safety standards are met. This position involves troubleshooting critical system issues and collaborating with design engineers to enhance infrastructure. The engineer will also mentor junior team members and drive initiatives to reduce operational costs while improving overall efficiency.
Requirements
- Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field.
- 7 years of experience in Controls/Automation in an industrial or commercial environment.
- Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting and moving equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations/shifts.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, and repair data center systems, including servers and network equipment.
- Provide effective leadership for critical system troubleshooting and repairs with minimal supervision.
- Respond to critical data center events and alarms, acting as a point of escalation for operational issues.
- Monitor plant efficiency metrics such as Power Usage Effectiveness and Water Usage Effectiveness.
- Interact with design engineers to bring an operational mindset to discussions about new infrastructure.
