Job description

The Fire Protection Engineer role at Jacobs focuses on providing engineering and design support for fire suppression and alarm systems. The position involves conducting code analysis, hydraulic calculations, and fire modeling to ensure safety and compliance. The engineer will also facilitate process hazard analysis reviews and participate in site surveys and project meetings. This hybrid role allows for a combination of remote work and on-site responsibilities.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Fire Protection, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • In lieu of the above, a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent and 3 years of relevant work experience will be accepted.
  • Expertise in hydraulic calculations, sprinkler and fire alarm device spacing requirements, and smoke ventilation calculations is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Computational Fluid Dynamics (FDS) and Egress Modeling is required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide fire engineering for fire suppression system engineering and design.
  • Support code analysis, hydraulic calculations, and fire modeling.
  • Facilitate and attend process hazard analysis reviews and team meetings.
  • Conduct site surveys and attend project meetings on-site.
  • Support fire hazards assessments to determine fire water demands and structural fireproofing requirements.
  • Provide engineering and design support for gas detection systems.
  • Perform explosion venting calculations and process hazard analysis facilitation.
