The Optical Network Development Engineer will join the Core Networking team at AWS, focusing on building, deploying, and scaling networks that support AWS and its customers across global data centers. This role involves collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and specialists to ensure the stability and efficiency of next-generation IP networks. The engineer will play a critical role in sustaining and optimizing network operations while driving innovation in network technology. The position requires a strong understanding of optical networks and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols
- 4+ years of experience working in a Linux/Unix environment
- Experience with programming/scripting in languages such as Batch, VB, PowerShell, Java, C#, Chef, Perl, Ruby, and/or PHP
- 4+ years of experience with the rollout and maintenance of large DWDM Networks and Optical Network Technologies
- 4+ years of experience with optical planning and modeling tools
- 4+ years of experience with optical network design and troubleshooting
- 1+ years of automation scripting experience using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl
- Expertise in network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills
- In-depth knowledge of IP Networking fundamentals
- In-depth Unix experience and the ability to script/program in Python or a similar scripting language
- Knowledge of L2 and L3 routing
- A relevant degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large-scale network environment
Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality network and systems operations, deployments, and scaling.
- Create and implement changes on the network.
- Work closely with automation teams to define tools for scaling at higher volumes.
- Lead network projects in areas such as sustaining engineering, deployment, and optimization.
- Provide critical network support to diagnose and resolve large-scale networking events.
- Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, and performance issues.
- Drive and support innovation across the network infrastructure.
- Collaborate with the broader Network/Infrastructure organization on engineering standards.
- Ensure compliance with networking toolset standards and policies.
- Deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes.
- Create and review documentation regarding network implementations and procedures.
